Appliances and adjustments

Interactive cinema conjugates two elements developing along parallel lines: on the one hand technological advances derived from various fields have crystallised invention and research into the actual device expedients, unleashing new attitudes, and on the other hand, the initiation of the spectator and his motions manoeuvre him into alternative levels of awareness. Interactive cinema represents, in effect, a privileged place from which to examine the forum of technological engineering from the point of view of optics, mechanics, electronics, digitalisation and robotic automation, and the degrees of freedom which characterise anatomic, dynamic and cognitive organisation of the subject.

Cinema also modulates diverse forms of specialisation within the public itself, its physical expedients (attitudes) and its levels of awareness, springing from technological advance which it has itself sometimes elicited. Cinema encapsulates, catalyses (elicits and triggers) and anticipates technological developments. Besides, the catalogue of innovations having a bearing is quite unlimited, there being so many materials, techniques and processes involved.

It is therefore impossible to retrace them all and to measure the impact each has had. But within this brief story, certain moments seem to have encapsulated several resounding consequences, leading the spectator on and away to somewhere else.
